Nonmetallic systems / pipe, tanks and engineered composites

Specify the service. Then select the composite system.

CNPS helps project teams define fiberglass and composite systems around the medium, pressure, temperature, structure, installation and required design life—not around a material acronym alone.

Selection logic

Corrosion resistance is the opening question, not the final answer

A viable nonmetallic system must resolve chemical compatibility, mechanical duty, system interfaces and the project quality plan together.

Gate 01

Screen the medium

Define composition, concentration, contaminants, solids, cleaning chemicals and expected operating changes.

Output / compatibility basis
Gate 02

Bound the duty

State operating and design pressure, vacuum, temperature, surge, cycles and the intended service life.

Output / design envelope
Gate 03

Engineer the system

Resolve dimensions, reinforcement, joints, supports, nozzles, buried loads and metallic interfaces.

Output / system architecture
Gate 04

Plan assurance

Align the governing standard, design records, inspection hold points, installation and acceptance criteria.

System families

Choose by function before product form

Start with what the system must do. CNPS can then review the appropriate resin, reinforcement, construction and joining route.

Common questions

Resolve the material route early

These answers support an initial screen. Final selection still depends on the complete service and project requirements.

What information is needed to select a fiberglass system?

Begin with the medium and concentration, operating and design temperature, pressure or vacuum, dimensions, load cases, installation conditions, design life and governing project standard.

Are FRP, GRP and GRE interchangeable specifications?

No. The terms describe broad composite families. Resin chemistry, reinforcement, laminate construction, manufacturing method, joints and quality requirements still need to be defined for the service.

When should nonmetallic systems be evaluated against steel?

Evaluate both routes when corrosion, handling, maintenance, electrical or magnetic behavior, hydraulic performance, lifecycle requirements or site installation constraints materially affect the project.

Can pipe, tanks and fabricated products be reviewed together?

Yes. A combined review is useful when the items share a medium, operating envelope or interfaces. Send one project brief and identify the boundaries between each system.

Next step / material route review

Bring the service conditions. Leave with a clearer system path.

Send the known values, operating ranges and open questions. CNPS will use them to frame the relevant pipe, tank or engineered-composite route.

Nonmetallic Solutions Overview

Nonmetallic solutions use fiberglass and composite materials in place of steel to deliver corrosion resistance, lower weight, and a longer service life in oil, gas, water, and chemical applications. As a manufacturer and supplier of fiberglass products, CNPS provides a full range of nonmetallic piping, tanks, and composite products for energy and industrial projects worldwide.

Unlike steel, fiberglass and composite materials resist corrosion without protective coatings, weigh a fraction of metal pipe for easier transport and installation, and are non-conductive and non-magnetic. These properties reduce maintenance and total lifecycle cost, especially in corrosive, high-salinity, and chemically aggressive environments.

CNPS nonmetallic product range includes:

  • Fiberglass pipe — corrosion-resistant GRE, GRP, and FRP piping for oilfield water injection and disposal, produced-water and crude transport, firewater, and chemical service.
  • Fiberglass tanks and vessels — storage for water, chemicals, fuels, and produced fluids that resists corrosion and scaling without internal coatings.
  • Fiberglass products and solutions — additional composite products engineered to match each project’s pressure, temperature, and chemical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are nonmetallic solutions in oil and gas?

Nonmetallic solutions use fiberglass and composite materials instead of steel for piping, tanks, and equipment. They provide corrosion resistance, lighter weight, and a longer service life in oil, gas, water, and chemical applications where metal would corrode.

Why choose nonmetallic (fiberglass) products over steel?

Fiberglass and composite products resist corrosion without coatings, weigh far less than steel for easier handling and installation, are non-conductive and non-magnetic, and lower maintenance and total lifecycle cost in corrosive and high-salinity service.

What nonmetallic products does CNPS supply?

CNPS supplies fiberglass pipe (GRE, GRP, and FRP), fiberglass tanks and vessels, and related composite products, engineered to match the pressure, temperature, and chemical conditions of each oil, gas, water, or industrial application.
