Coiled Tubing Well-Control RFQ — What to Specify Before You Quote an API 16A CT BOP

Buyers search coiled tubing, coiled tubing BOP, or API 16A coiled tubing BOP when a live-well intervention package needs a clear well-control RFQ — and the request often collapses to "CT BOP." That hides the decision that drives fit. On live CNPS pages the hard product path is the API 16A Coiled Tubing BOP — framed for workover and drilling with hydril control systems and full conformity to API 16A as published. Soft educational posts explain what coiled tubing is; they do not replace a Selection & RFQ brief.

This page turns duty into quote fields. It feeds the live CT BOP PDP plus the sister wellhead pressure control RFQ matrix (CT BOP separate from slickline PCE and drilling BOP RFQs), and sends one package through request a quote. No www.cnps.com dedicated coiled-tubing / CT-BOP Selection & RFQ buyer guide owns this SERP yet — soft encyclopedia and P&A posts are sister links, not deepen-only blockers.

Start with duty, not with a hardware label

Name what the stack must do before you ask for a model:

Duty Question the RFQ must answer
Live-well intervention / workover Coiled-tubing workover or drilling well control as published on the product page?
Wellbore / string sealing Seal annular space between tubing and casing or wellbore; suspend / stabilize string (KEY FEATURE framing)?
Pressure operations Choke / blowout side outlets or operations under pressure (KEY FEATURE bullets)?
CT BOP vs other PCE CT BOP RFQ — not slickline PCE and not a general drilling BOP RFQ (wellhead RFQ matrix)?

Match operation type first. Do not fold CT well control into a generic "BOP" line without configuration, ram set, and ratings against the offered unit. Do not invent CT pipe grades, injector heads, CT units, strippers, goosenecks, or tool fleets. Soft context: coiled tubing complete guide · plugging and well abandonment coiled tubing.

Product path — map to the published API 16A CT BOP page

One live product page owns the hard specs: API 16A Coiled Tubing BOP. Use only published figures. The page frames an API 16A hydril annular BOP for workover and drilling with hydril control systems; construction listed as body, header, rubber core, and piston; inner rubber core interchangeable; usable independently; normally works with single or double BOP; seals drilling tool or wellbore; anti-H2S per NACE MR 0175 as published. KEY FEATURE bullets use "single ram BOP" wording for seal / suspend / side-outlet / under-pressure — quote carefully as published; do not invent an annular-vs-ram resolution beyond the live copy.

Also published: piston stroke 100 mm; closed / open chamber vol 2 × 1.75 L / 2 × 1.50 L; dimension 1350 × 380 × 638 mm (2FZ18-21) and 1350 × 395 × 656 mm (2FZ18-35). Confirm ratings only against these two rows — do not extrapolate. A side widget also shows Weight 6617 kg; if that conflicts with table lb weights, cite model-row lb weights and do not invent reconciliation.

How to read the path:

  1. Duty → CT BOP — live-well / workover-drilling well control; keep off slickline PCE and generic drilling BOP packages unless separate line items.
  2. WP and bore — 3000 psi / 7 1/16 in (2FZ18-21) or 5000 psi / 7 3/8 in (2FZ18-35).
  3. Ram set — 2 3/8”, 2 7/8”, 3 1/2”, 4 1/2”, blind ram as published; state which the job needs.
  4. Control and peers — hydril control framing; normally with single or double BOP; no invented stack drawings.
  5. Sour service — NACE MR 0175 as published; ask for documents — no invented cert numbers or monogram seals.

API 16A CT BOP path — working pressure class, bore, ram set, control and stack peers to confirm

Confirm each layer against the live PDP:

  1. Working pressure — 3000 psi (2FZ18-21) or 5000 psi (2FZ18-35); strength test 6000 / 7500 psi.
  2. Nominal diameter — 7 1/16 in or 7 3/8 in.
  3. Ram set — published pipe rams and blind ram; closed interval <15 s.
  4. Hydraulic control — cylinder WP 1200–1500 psi; chamber volumes as tabled; hydril control framing.
  5. Stack peers — independent or with single / double BOP; side outlets where KEY FEATURE bullets apply.
  6. Environment / sour — temp classes and NACE MR 0175 as published; request documents (no invented cert numbers).

No invented CT pipe grades, injector heads, CTU fleets, stripper / gooseneck hardware, prices, plants, case studies, or fake API monogram seals.

Send one brief

A useful request fits on one page: duty, CT-vs-other-PCE confirmation, model path, WP and bore, ram set, control, peers, temperature / sour-service needs, mating notes, and commercial fields. Confirm ratings only against published 2FZ18-21 / 2FZ18-35 rows — do not extrapolate.
